Smoke on the Water

One of the challenges of living and recreating in Northern California is that wildfire season seems to get longer every year. In September of 2019, we set out for a camping trip at Antelope Lake near our home outside Susanville. We knew that the Walker Fire had started near there a couple of days earlier, but it was still relatively small and headed in the opposite direction. We arrived in the early afternoon and set up camp, and by evening the winds were changing and smoke was starting to roll across the sky above the lake. An evacuation order was issued early the next morning.
